All about the Niedersachsen-Ticket
Travel for a whole day
The Niedersachsen-Ticket is valid on all 2nd class local trains, as well as buses, trams, and underground trains in Lower Saxony, Bremen, and Hamburg.
It is valid around the clock from midnight on the day of validity until 3 a.m. the following day.
All aboard
The Niedersachsen-Ticket is valid in 2nd class on all local trains (RE, RB, S, RS) in Lower Saxony, Bremen, and Hamburg.
The only exception: it is valid on IC/EC trains between Bremen Central Station and Norddeich Mole/Emden Außenhafen, but not on other long-distance trains (IC/ICE).
By bus, tram, and underground
The Niedersachsen-Ticket is also valid on buses, trams, and underground trains in Lower Saxony, Bremen, and Hamburg.
In North Rhine-Westphalia and Hengelo (NL), bus travel is not included. Additional tickets are required.
Simple rule for travelling with children
Each Niedersachsen-Ticket allows up to three children aged 6 to 14 to travel free of charge, as well as all children under 6. These children do not need to be named on the ticket.
Teenagers aged 15 and over travel as paying passengers. They need to be listed on the ticket.
Valid only with name entry
Before departure, please write the names of all travellers legibly and in block letters on the Niedersachsen-Ticket.
Children travelling for free do not need to be listed. Paying dogs must be entered as ‘Dog’.
Valid photo IDs of the travellers must be presented during ticket inspection upon request.
Easy ticket purchase
The Niedersachsen-Ticket is available as a mobile phone ticket via the FahrPlaner-App, as an online ticket in the ticket shop, and in paper form from ticket machines, sales points, and on many buses.
The online ticket can be loaded into the FahrPlaner app as a mobile phone ticket after purchase.
It is not possible to return, exchange or refund Niedersachsen-Tickets.
Taking your bicycle
For local trains in Lower Saxony, Bremen, and Hamburg, a Niedersachsentarif Bicycle Day Ticket (€6.50 per bike) is required.
Folding bikes can be transported free of charge in the designated luggage areas.
Different rules may apply within the transport associations.
For the IC/EC between Bremen Central Station and Norddeich Mole/Emden Außenhafen, booking a parking space in the bicycle compartment is required (only available at DB sales points).
Travelling with your dog
Your dog as a paying passenger must be entered on the Niedersachsen-Ticket as ‘Dog.’
Different regulations may apply within the transport associations. Please check with the respective operators for more information.

Ticket purchase
Where can I buy the Niedersachsen-Ticket?
You can purchase the Niedersachsen-Ticket and the plus offers
- in the ticket shop at niedersachsenticket.de and www.niedersachsentarif.de
- as a mobile phone ticket via the FahrPlaner-App
- at ticket machines in railway stations
- at sales points of railway companies
- on many buses.
- The online ticket can be loaded into the FahrPlaner-App as a mobile phone ticket after purchase.
Niedersachsen-Tickets, including the plus Groningen and plus Ostharz options, cannot be returned, exchanged, or refunded!
Can I buy the Niedersachsen-Ticket on the train?
The Niedersachsen-Ticket must always be purchased before travelling.
It cannot be purchased on the train!
If it is not possible to buy the ticket before departure, for example, because the ticket machine is faulty, contact the train attendant on the train immediately. Only then in exceptional cases a sale on the train is possible.
Can I cancel or rebook my Niedersachsen-Ticket?
Niedersachsen-Tickets, including the plus Groningen and plus Ostharz options, are tickets with a significantly reduced fare and are therefore explicitly excluded from cancellation, rebooking, and refunds!
Please ensure that all details are entered correctly when booking your ticket (e.g. travel date, passenger names, etc.).
If you made a mistake when booking, such as purchasing a Niedersachsen-Ticket for the wrong date, you will need to buy an additional ticket with the correct date. Please contact the company from which you purchased the ticket to request a refund for the incorrectly booked ticket:

Ticket information
Can I take a dog with me on the Niedersachsen-Ticket?
- Small dogs up to the size of a domestic cat can travel for free in a transport box.
- Larger dogs can be taken on a lead as an additional, chargeable passenger and are entered on the ticket as ‘dog’.
- Other regulations may apply in the transport associations. Please check with the respective operators for more information.
I couldn’t use the Niedersachsen-Ticket because the train was cancelled. What can I do?

Area of validity
Is the Niedersachsen-Ticket valid on long-distance trains or on Flixtrains?
The Niedersachsen-Ticket is not valid on long-distance trains (ICE, IC/EC). For these, you will need tickets for DB long-distance services.
The only exception is the IC/EC between Bremen Central Station and Norddeich Mole/Emden Außenhafen, which can be used with the Niedersachsen-Ticket.
The Niedersachsen-Ticket is not valid on Flixtrains. You will need to purchase separate tickets for these.
Is the Niedersachsen-Ticket valid on buses outside Lower Saxony, Bremen, and Hamburg?
Niedersachsen-Tickets are not valid on buses in North Rhine-Westphalia (e.g. in Münster and Herford). You will need additional tickets for these.
Where is the Niedersachsen-Ticket valid on the route to Münster?
Important:
- The Niedersachsen-Ticket is only valid to Münster (Westf) Hbf when travelling via Rheine.
- For example, on routes from Emden or Leer via Rheine to Münster (Westf) Hbf, or from Oldenburg or Bremen via Osnabrück and Rheine to Münster (Westf) Hbf.
- On the route from Osnabrück Hbf via Lengerich (Westf) and Ostbevern, the Niedersachsen-Ticket is only valid to or from Natrup-Hagen. This is the last or first stop in Lower Saxony.
For onward travel to Münster (Westf) Hbf, a Westfalentarif ticket is required. More information (prices, ticket purchase, etc.) can be found at https://www.westfalentarif.de/start
The Niedersachsen-Ticket is not valid on buses in Münster.
Travelling with children
Can I travel with the Niedersachsen-Ticket and children?
There are simple rules for travelling with children on the Niedersachsen-Ticket:
- All children under the age of 6 travel for free.
- Each Niedersachsen-Ticket allows up to three children aged 6 to 14 to travel for free.
- Children travelling for free are not listed by name on the Niedersachsen-Ticket.
- If more than three children aged 6 to 14 are travelling on the Niedersachsen-Ticket, three children travel for free, the other children are paying passengers. A maximum of five paying passengers can share a Niedersachsen-Ticket, and their names must be noted on the ticket.
- Teenagers aged 15 and over are considered additional paying passengers, and their names must be noted on the ticket.
